

Tourism Will Be in Turmoil for Next 18 Months
The tourism industry will be in a turmoil for the next 18 months at least, due to the Coronavirus developments, the president of the French Union of Hotel Trades and Industries (UMIH), Laurent Duc estimates.
Duc said he is not surprised that the French Prime Minister has not authorized bars and restaurants to reopen on May 11, as the government was “going to watch the French act in deconfinement before authorizing the seated restoration to reopen,”
“Donors will have to make efforts to reduce rents as much as the capacity of establishments to receive of the public, “Duc pointed out, adding that “the hotels will gradually reopen since business trips are authorized in the Schengen area.”
As the Coronavirus pandemic causes global economic devastation, the tourism sector also has been devastated, and a large share of countries are digging to find new ways that would help Europe get through the Coronavirus crisis.
Regarding this issue, Greece, Cyprus and Israel are considering setting up to create a “corona corridor” as an effort to revive the tourism sector amid the pandemic.
According to Israeli Tourism Minister Yariv Levin, the latest move seeks to attract tourists who under certain circumstances are not willing to travel far in the coming months, but might be more open to visiting neighbouring countries.
On the other hand, the Czech Republic is also considering plans to create a corridor with Slovakia and Croatia, as all three countries have had fewer infection cases of the virus lately.
Other countries like Italy, Spain and the UK, are not being included in any of these trials, as they have been highly affected by the virus.
The United Nations World Tourism Organization estimated that as of April 20, 100% of world tourist destinations had introduced temporary travel restrictions due to the spread of Coronavirus, 83% of them had already been in place for up to four weeks.
